The Sudoku Nordstrom Anniversary Sale Edit: 9 pieces, 27 outfits

The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale is finally here and open to everyone! It's open to all of us from July 18 through August 9, and here's the part I love: these are brand new for fall pieces, marked down before the season even starts, and they jump right back to full price the second the sale ends. So this is my mix-and-match edit, free shipping and free returns run the whole thing, and there's zero risk in trying anything.

Corrine's Nordstrom Anniversary Sale Sudoku capsule grid laid out flat

This is my 14th Anniversary Sale. Fourteen years!! I've shopped this thing pregnant, postpartum, sleep-deprived with a newborn, and now with five kids (13, 11, 7, 6, and 3), a husband, and a dog who all somehow have opinions about my jeans (they really do), and every single year I come back to the exact same trick: a small mix-and-match edit where every piece works with every other piece.

So that's what this is. Not everything that's on sale. What I actually put in my own cart, and exactly how I'd wear it. I built it like a Sudoku: 9 pieces (three tops, three bottoms, three layers) where every piece mixes with every other piece, so 9 things turn into 27-plus outfits. That's the magic of it. I'm walking you through all nine, piece by piece, plus the shoes and bags that finish the looks.

Let's get into it!

What's already gone (so you don't waste your cart hunting)

Early access just proved how fast the good pieces go, and a few I was obsessed with are already sold out. I want to save you the frustration of digging for something that isn't there, so here are a few examples, 3 popular pieces that are already gone:

If one of those was on your list, don't panic! Nordstrom restocks a lot of pieces mid-sale, so it's worth checking back. And for anything below that's still in stock: if it's your size and it makes your heart jump a little, grab it now and decide at home, because the popular pieces disappear first. But everything in tonight's edit is something you can actually buy right now, promise.

Zero-risk shopping: how the sale actually works

Here's why I tell everyone to buy now and think later during this sale: returns are completely free the entire time the sale runs. If it doesn't fit, you send it back for free, no stress, no cost. Order two sizes if you're between, keep the one that makes you feel amazing, and send the rest back right from your doorstep. It's basically the closest thing to trying on the whole sale from your couch!

Buy it now while it's in stock and in your size. Whatever the price is today, that's the price, so grab it while you can! And if it doesn't work out, returns are free.

The 9-piece Sudoku edit

One thing that makes this whole edit easy: sizing. Everything in this post runs true to size!! I ordered my normal size in every single piece, so unless I call something out, grab your usual size and go.

This is the one I keep coming back to, year after year. Nine pieces (three tops, three bottoms, three layers) that all talk to each other, so any top goes with any bottom, and you can throw a layer over the top. That's more than 27 outfits from nine things, and that's before you even swap the shoes and bags! Everything here was in stock when I hit publish, but the popular pieces are already getting spotty, so grab what you love now.

The tops

The AllSaints Stevie white tee ($55 $35.99, 35% off) is the perfect white tee. It goes with literally everything, and that's exactly why I wore it with every single pair of jeans in the grid! If a white tee is the one basic you buy in the sale, make it this one.

The Treasure & Bond floral cutwork linen top ($129 $85.99, 33% off) is my feminine, pretty, dress-up piece. It's what I reach for on vacation or at home when I want to feel a little more dressy without actually trying. Wear it with any of the jeans in the grid and you look done.

And the Open Edit rib mock-neck sweater ($79.50 $49.99, 37% off) gives you a clean, dressed-up look and it's a perfect layering piece under any of the jackets. It layers under any of the jackets or stands on its own for a date night. For $49.99, it's the workhorse of the whole grid!!

The bottoms

The rag & bone Flexi Peyton bootcut jeans ($278 $185.99, $92 off) are the do-everything jean, dressy enough for dinner and easy enough for the school pickup line. The bootcut balances the boots and the loafers, and they're the pair I anchor the whole grid on. If you only buy one pair of jeans in the whole sale, make it this one!

The Levi's Low Loose jeans ($110 $72.99, 34% off) are the relaxed, everyday pair I kept reaching for. Not slouchy, just max comfort and they go with every top and layer in the grid and look put together without any effort.

The PAIGE Leenah wide-leg jeans in ecru ($249 $165.99, 33% off) are the lighter neutral I wear when I'm tired of blue denim. Ecru makes the brown suede jacket and every top in the grid pop, and they go with all of them.

The layers

The Treasure & Bond pintucked denim jacket ($149 $99.99, 33% off) goes over every single outfit in this edit. The pintucking makes it a little more special than your usual denim jacket, so it reads as dressed-up over the linen top and easy over the tee.

Okay, the AllSaints Ryder suede jacket in bitter brown is the hero of this whole edit. It's $649 $399.99 ($249 off), it's suede, and it's the piece I'd buy first if I could only buy one thing. $249 off!! It makes everything under it look expensive, and the bitter brown goes over the mock-neck, the tee, and every bottom in the grid.

And the Halogen cable-stitch cotton cardigan ($69 $45.99, 33% off) is such a statement piece, and everyone is wearing these like crazy right now!! It goes with any outfit whether you tie it around your shoulders or actually wear it.

Shoes and accessories

For shoes, the Vionic Henley penny loafer ($130 $89.99, 31% off) is my comfort pick, and I mean truly comfortable. Vionic is doctor-made with incredible foot support, so these are insanely comfortable! This is the shoe I'd pack for a trip like Italy where I want to look polished but get unlimited steps and walk all day. And the Veronica Beard Laidie kitten-heel bootie ($495 $329.99, $165 off) is for when I want a little heel without giving up the ability to actually walk.

And if you want an everyday sneaker in the mix, the New Balance 327 ($79.99) is a classic that goes with the whole grid. It comes in Sea Salt/Pink Salt and White/Black.

I get asked about bags more than almost anything, so here are the exact ones I carry across all of these looks.

The AllSaints Ursa suede satchel is a nice bag that actually fits my 14-inch MacBook Pro with room to spare, but it reads dressy, not like a work briefcase or a backpack. It picks up the suede in the Ryder jacket, so it pulls the whole outfit together.

The Veronica Beard Small Stash has a hideaway gold crossbody strap, so I wear it crossbody by day and tuck the strap to turn it into a dressier clutch at night. It works with everything here all year, so if you buy one bag from this whole post, that's the one.

The Favorite Daughter Go Sports canvas tote is my roomy everyday carry-all. It swallows a water bottle and a kid's stuff and still looks cute.

I style my own, so I'm linking a similar current one, and it turns the linen top or the midi dress into a dinner outfit.

The zebra boots (a bonus, because I could not resist)

Okay, these Steve Madden Brax zebra boots ($269 $179.99, 33% off) are not one of the nine, but I could not resist shooting them on their own because they are that good!! Swap them in for any of the shoes in the grid and they instantly pull the whole outfit together.

Here's how I wear them: over bootcut jeans, tucked under wide-leg jeans, or with a skirt or a dress. They pull more weight than any neutral boot I own!

How to build your own Sudoku (step by step)

Want to build your own? Here's the foolproof version. It takes about five minutes, and you will never stand there staring at your closet again!

  1. Sort your pieces into three piles: tops, bottoms, and layers (jackets, cardigans, sweaters).
  2. Pick three of each. That's your nine.
  3. Lay them out in three rows. Row 1: top, bottom, layer. Row 2: bottom, layer, top. Row 3: layer, top, bottom. Each row slides over by one, so every row and every column becomes a complete outfit.
  4. Now read it every direction: across, down, diagonal, and the four corners. That's 27 outfits from 9 pieces.
  5. Snap a photo of your grid and keep it on your phone, so you're never guessing what goes together when you're getting dressed.

Mix in pieces from your own closet too! If you only grabbed one top in the sale, pull two more you already own and love to round out your three, and do the same for your bottoms and layers. The grid works just as well with things you already have.

Most people use this trick for travel, and it is so good for packing. But it also just helps you remember what you actually bought and every combo you can make with it. You know when you grab a bunch of groceries and then totally blank on what to make for dinner, even though you have everything in the fridge? This fixes that, but for your closet.

It also helps you spot a real hole in your wardrobe. If you grabbed one jacket, then look in your closet and don't see other layering pieces you love, that's your sign to grab one or two more.

Frequently asked questions

What is the Sudoku capsule edit?

It's how I shop the sale! I pick 9 pieces (three tops, three bottoms, three layers) where every piece mixes with every other piece, so 9 things turn into 27-plus outfits. Then I add the shoes and bags that tie it all together. It's how I get the most outfits out of the fewest pieces, every time.

When does the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale end?

The sale ends Sunday, August 9, 2026. But I wouldn't wait if you already know you love something! popular pieces tend to sell out well before then, so I'd grab the pieces you love now, while they're in stock and in your size.

What if my size sells out before I decide?

That's exactly why I buy first and decide at home! The popular pieces go early, so I grab my size while it's there, and because returns are free, I can send back anything that doesn't work out.

What sells out first in the Anniversary Sale?

The best-selling jeans, sweaters, and bags in popular pieces go first. A few pieces I loved this year (the Anine Bing Quincy denim jacket, the PAIGE Haisley pointelle sweater, and the JW PEI Elise bag) were already sold out in early access.

Do I need a Nordstrom card to shop the sale?

Nope, not anymore! The sale is now open to everyone. Cardholders got in early, but we all shop the exact same prices now.

Is the Anniversary Sale actually a good deal?

For me, yes! Because it's brand new fall and everyday pieces marked down before the season even starts, not last season's leftovers. That's the whole reason I buy my fall staples now instead of paying full price for them in September.

What's the one thing you'd buy if you could only buy one?

A great pair of jeans, hands down. The PAIGE Leenah wide-leg jeans in ecru. You most likely do not have anything like this in your closet yet, and that is exactly why I grabbed it!!sjv.io/bkvjbM”>rag & bone Flexi Peyton bootcut if you want the do-everything pair you will reach for on repeat.

Do the pieces in this edit run true to size?

Yes!! Everything in this post is true to size. I ordered my normal size in every piece and that is what you see in all the photos.

That's my edit! Fourteen years in, this is still my favorite sale of the entire year, and building it like a Sudoku (9 pieces, 27-plus outfits) is how I make sure everything I buy actually gets worn.
