Duffel Bag

This duffel bag was the most perfect size – it has a side pocket on the outside of the bag, so throughout the week I’d put my dirty clothes in that pocket to separate from my clean clothes. I also LOVE this color because it hides dirt really well, because let's be honest – camping is dirty!!

This duffel is durable and water-resistant (+ it has a super comfortable shoulder strap!) A great staple bag to have on hand for when you have a few day camping trip, or even a small weekend vacay. Headlamp

If you haven’t converted to the headlamp life yet, you need to because there are just so many things I was able to do because I was HANDS FREE and had a light shining always at night when I needed it!!

One night at camp we did a “Faith Walk” where the girls had to use clues, and I was responsible for holding the clues for them, and the headlamp was just SO helpful because I didn't have to juggle holding a flashlight in one hand and passing out the clues in the other. Plus, this was ALL in the dark!

For a million reasons, this is absolutely life-saving – use it to read in the dark, walk around camp at night, or you can have two free hands when you're trying to multitask in the dark! This is also the lightest-weight headlamp I’ve ever used – sometimes they’re kinda heavy and feels like it’ll give you headache after a while, or they slide down your head, but THIS ONE had none of those problems. You can even adjust the light to point towards a more specific direction, like forwards, upwards, or downwards. And it comes in a bunch of different colors!

Sleeping Bag + Mattress Pad

Sleeping Bag: This sleeping bag was absolutely A-MA-ZING. It has a temperature control so it kept me warm but I wasn’t sweating, which I have issues with being too hot at night. It's durable and water-resistant which are huge pluses, especially if you're going to be backpacking in wet or humid climates.

You have the option to have the zipper open up to the right or left, PLUS there are several different lengths to choose from depending on your height (short, regular, long, and extra-long). We got Long/Right Zip because I like to sleep on my left side and Neil and I are both tall! Mattress Pad: This mattress pad was totally KEY to making my sleep while camping more like a “glamping” experience! It made the extra firm block-like mattresses in our cabins MUCH more comfortable and I slept great.

It's really easy to inflate and only took me about a minute to fill it up. It’s also super easy to deflate when your camping trip is over (which is sometimes the trickiest part!) Compressible Pillow

This pillow from Backcountry was really great and easy to squish down to a compact size! I would say if you have the extra space to bring your own full-size pillow, bring that! But if you’re going backpacking or if you're limited on space, this is an awesome space-saving option that really was super comfortable to sleep on.

Towel

This towel from Backcountry is quick-drying, lightweight, has a loop hole to easily hang up, and even comes with a little zip pouch to store it in after you've used it or if you want to keep it from getting dirty – seriously all the best things in one towel that takes up minimal space in your duffel!

A very highly-rated towel, and you can get it in several different sizes – either a beach towel, body towel, face towel, or hand towel. I got the beach towel size and it was plenty big enough to cover me up and keep me warm after showering at camp. Shoes

Trail-Runners — have you heard of them? They're the new kid on the block and they've taken the main stage in place of clunky, old school heavy hiking boots and I'm CONVERTED for life! Backcountry doesn't have this exact pair I'm wearing in the photos, but they have the newest version in a couple different colors!

I picked up a pair for both Neil and me a while back and we couldn't stop saying all day the first day we wore them, “wow these are SO NICE.” They feel kind of like walking on clouds. They're bouncy, crazy comfy and light as air.

So unless you're going over some really crazy super muddy terrain, I think a trail runner like this is the way to go! My sister who's an AVID hiker recommended these and I love how lightweight and comfortable they are.
