New year’s eve makeup tutorial

Christmas is officially over and the countdown to the new year has begun! Can you believe New Year's Eve is just a few days away? Where did 2018 go?!

New Year's Eve is one of my favorite nights to dial up the drama and the sparkle with my makeup routine. Even if I'm not going out! So whether you're going super glam with a night out on the town or keeping it low key with some fun friends on a night in, I think you're going to love this NYE makeup tutorial!

New year's eve makeup

My friend Courtney came over the week before Christmas and we had so much fun playing with all the sparkly makeup! When it comes to makeup I prefer to do a dramatic eye or a dramatic lip, but not both. For this New Year's Eve look we went all in with the eyes and then a soft, sparkly, but not too loud lip.

I believe in eyeshadow primer every day of the year, but you're really going to want it for NYE! This Urban Decay Primer Potion is a cult favorite that keeps your shadows vibrant and lids crease free for 24 hours!!

TIP: If you have all shimmer then nothing pops! So we did sparkly on the eyelid and a matte on the crease.

For our base we used Electric Air from this Urban Decay palette I already had and use all year long (that palette is currently HALF OFF-just $26!). Electric Air is the most gorgeous pinkish-silver with just a subtle hint of glitter. Then we used a little Luna in the corners and under my brows.

In the crease, Courtney used a combination of colors from The Balm Cosmetics Meet Trimony Matte palette. She combined Matt Ahmed and Matt Reed and then used Matt Evans to transition. This creates THE prettiest ombre effect and blends out really soft with a blending eye brush.

I am OBSESSED with these Stila Glitter & Glow liquid shadows. Over 1000 perfect reviews. Super pigmented, super glittery, super easy application. We used Diamond Dust. It was the perfect sheer silver to layer on top of the pinkish silver base we had.

For a little extra under eye coverage, we used a little Tarte Double Duty Contour Concealer in light neutral.

TIP: You can mix any highlighter and foundation for that extra glow factor! For my face we mixed bareMinerals Barepro Glow and YSL All Hours Foundation.

It Cosmetics makes the prettiest bronzer that's like a vacation in a compact! Plus the finish erases pores like magic. A little Benefit rose gold blush and Laura Mercier secret brightening powder to set and viola! The prettiest new year's eve skin, even at midnight if you use my very, very favorite All Nighter setting spray on top.

This liquid liner pen is AMAZING! Fine-point and glides on super smooth and perfect. And because it's waterproof it will look flawless until the ball drops!

This tinted gel is brow magic! It contains tiny little microfibers that make your brows look fuller and more defined. Win-win!!

And this pencil is the perfect thing for defining the ends and filling in sparse places (we ALL have them!)!

We typically stay home on New Year's Eve but this year we'll actually be in San Diego with my whole family – hopefully celebrating a Utah bowl game win!! Whether you're staying in or going out, I still think it's fun to get a little bit done up and throw on a sparkly party hat even if you're just staying home! Although no makeup and sweatpants sounds pretty amazing too! How are you ringing in the New Year?
