Why I am OBSESSED with Beddys for kids' rooms (after 7 years of testing them)

We got our first Beddys in 2018, and I am not gonna lie, I was skeptical. Bedding that zips closed instead of having a top sheet and a comforter? It sounded like a gimmick. But we tried them in our kids' rooms and after 7 years and 5 kids, I can confidently say Beddys are the BEST kids' bedding I have ever owned. I am not exaggerating. I have personally tested:

  • Pottery Barn Kids
  • Restoration Hardware Kids
  • Target
  • Walmart
  • Random “looks like Beddys” copycats from Amazon

And nothing else is even close. Here is the honest breakdown.

Recent Beddys bedding for girls in our daughters' room - the zipper makes the bed in 10 seconds

Why Beddys are HANDS DOWN the best kids' bedding

The genius of Beddys: they zip. Like a sleeping bag that lives on the bed. Your kid pulls the zipper closed in 10 seconds in the morning and the bed is MADE. No top sheet wars, no comforter falling on the floor, no morning showdowns about “fix your bed.”

For kids specifically, this is life-changing. Mine learned to “make their bed” by age 3. Even my 3-year-old can handle the zipper. Independence is the single most underrated parenting hack and Beddys made it possible in our house.

Honest take: Beddys are PERFECT for kids, a little weird for adults

I want to be transparent here. Neil and I had Beddys on our master bed for a while, and we ultimately moved away from them as adults. Why? They felt a little restrictive when you want to flip your covers around at night, and the zipped-in feeling that is great for kids felt too sleeping-bag-y as an adult. So we use Cariloha sheets and a separate duvet on our bed now (you can read my full Cariloha review here).

But for the kids? 1000% Beddys forever. We have not changed our kids' bedding since 2018. That is how good they hold up.

Beddys western boy bedding style for our son - one of the manly Beddys collections

Beddys come in BOTH girly and boyish styles (we have done both)

Beddys started with feminine designs and have since added masculine collections, so we have a good mix in our house:

  • Girly styles for Ani, Lyla, and Millie (florals, ruffles, soft pinks)
  • Boyish styles for Harry and Bobby (woodland, plaid, navy)
  • Both fit our kids' bunk beds, twin beds, full beds — every size we have needed
  • Plus they keep adding new collections every season, so there is always something new

The variety means even my pickiest kid found a style she actually loved.

Harry on his new Beddys ZipClean Mattress in his bedroom - the top layer unzips and is machine-washable

Beddys ZipMattress: yes, they make mattresses too (and we love ours)

Beddys is best known for the zip-closure bedding, but they also make a brilliant mattress line called the ZipMattress Collection (sometimes called the ZipClean Mattress) and we are OBSESSED. The genius is the same as the bedding: every layer of the mattress can be managed independently. The top layer of the mattress completely UNZIPS and can be removed and washed.

We got Harry a twin ZipClean Mattress and it has been a game-changer. The fact that the top layer is removable and machine-washable means accidents (which happen with kids), spills, allergens, and the everyday gross stuff that ends up on a mattress can actually be cleaned out properly instead of trapped in there forever. No more battling with mattress covers or trying to vacuum out trapped dirt or allergens. You just unzip the top, throw it in the washer, and put it back on.

Who is the Beddys mattress actually for?

  • Kids (especially toddlers, bedwetters, sick-day spills)
  • Elderly parents or grandparents
  • New moms recovering from delivery (anyone whose body fluids may end up on the mattress, postpartum is no joke)
  • Pet owners (or anyone whose pets sleep on the bed)
  • Honestly anyone who wants a mattress they can actually deep clean

Beddys mattress pricing + how my discount code works

With my code MINTARROW you get 25% off the ZipMattress sitewide AND a free pillow (or 2 free pillows on Queen and King sizes). The mattresses are already discounted before the code, so the additional 25% on top is genuinely an incredible deal on a high-quality mattress. Same code MINTARROW works on bedding AND mattresses at checkout, so you can stack a complete kid bedroom setup in one order. Click here to shop the ZipMattress Collection.

How to care for Beddys so they actually last

I get this question constantly: “do they hold up?” Mine have been in regular use for 7+ years and still look great because I follow the care rules. The most important ones:

  • Wash on cold or warm water (NEVER hot)
  • Skip fabric softener — it breaks down the fabric over time
  • Tumble dry on low or hang dry
  • Do not bleach unless your specific style says it is bleach-safe
  • Zip them up before washing to protect the zipper teeth

If you do those things, your Beddys will last for years and years. Mine that are 7+ years old still look basically brand new.

Beddys vs. Pottery Barn Kids vs. RH Kids vs. Target vs. Walmart

We have personally bought and tested kids' bedding from every single one of these. Here is exactly how Beddys stacks up.

Beddys vs. Pottery Barn Kids

Pottery Barn Kids has gorgeous prints and high quality, no question. But: kids cannot make a Pottery Barn Kids bed by themselves. There is a top sheet, a quilt, decorative pillows, the works. By the time you wrangle all of it, your kid is back to throwing the comforter on the floor and calling it “made.” Beddys solves this entirely with the zipper. Plus PBK is more expensive than Beddys with my code, and Beddys has cuter prints in my honest opinion.

Beddys vs. Restoration Hardware Kids

RH Kids is gorgeous but expensive (we are talking $400 to $600 per bed for the full set). Beddys gives you the same look-and-feel quality at a fraction of the price, AND it is actually designed for the way kids USE bedding. Worth every penny for actual kid functionality.

Beddys vs. Target Kids' Bedding

Target's kids' bedding is fine for the price upfront, but it does not hold up. After two washes ours started pilling and the comforters lost their fluff fast. Beddys after 7 years is still going strong. The cost-per-night math actually works out FOR Beddys.

Beddys vs. Walmart Kids' Bedding

Same problem as Target but worse. Cheap fabric, prints fade, and the comforters get crusty after a couple washes. Beddys is night and day in terms of longevity.

The bottom line

I have not bought a single piece of kids' bedding outside of Beddys since 2018. Every single one of my five kids has them. They wash beautifully, last forever, and the zipper makes the morning routine 10x faster. Use code MINTARROW for 20% off sitewide at Beddys.com and the price is genuinely competitive with PBK and RH while you get the best functionality on the market.

What I use Beddys for (basically everywhere a kid sleeps)

Once you have Beddys in your house, you will start finding excuses to use them anywhere a kid sleeps. Here is everywhere mine show up:

  • Every single one of our 5 kids' primary beds
  • Bunk beds (the zipper is even MORE useful when you cannot reach the top bunk easily)
  • Both bottom AND top bunks — different style for each kid
  • Guest room twin bed for visiting cousins or friends
  • Sleepovers (so easy to grab the whole “bed” and bring it to a friend's house)
  • Travel to grandma's house (we sometimes bring the kids' Beddys for the familiarity factor)
  • Big kid graduations from crib to toddler bed (the zipper closure helps reluctant new big-kid sleepers feel cozy and contained)
  • Birthday gifts for friends' kids (they always freak out)
  • Christmas gifts for nieces and nephews

I am genuinely amazed at how much functional value I have gotten from these over 7 years. The cost-per-night math at this point is basically pennies, especially with my code MINTARROW for 20% off.

Beddys FAQ

What is the best Beddys discount code?

My code MINTARROW gives you 20% off sitewide at Beddys.com. It works on basically all styles and sizes year-round and stacks on top of most of their seasonal sales. Just paste it into the discount code box at checkout.

Are Beddys actually worth the money?

1000% yes for kids' rooms. I have had them on every one of our 5 kids' beds since 2018 and they are still going strong. The zipper alone is worth the price for the morning bed-making time savings, and the durability over 7+ years means the cost-per-use is honestly pennies at this point.

Are Beddys good for adults too?

Honestly, in my experience they are best for kids. Neil and I had them on our master for a while and ultimately switched back to traditional sheets and a duvet because the zipped-in feeling felt too restrictive as an adult. Some adults love them though, and they are great for guest rooms.

How do you wash Beddys to make them last?

Wash on cold or warm (never hot), skip fabric softener, tumble dry on low or hang dry, and zip the bag up before washing to protect the zipper. Mine have lasted 7+ years following these rules.

Do Beddys come in styles for boys?

Yes. They have masculine and boy collections in addition to the feminine ones they started with. We have both styles in our house — woodland, plaid, navy options for our boys, plus florals and ruffles for our girls.

Do Beddys fit bunk beds?

Yes, and they are actually BETTER for bunk beds because you can't easily reach the top bunk to fix bedding. The zipper-make-the-bed magic is even more useful up there.

Are Beddys hot to sleep in?

They have different weight options. The ZipBase is the year-round standard. They also have summer and winter weight options if your kid runs hot or cold.

Does Beddys make mattresses too?

Yes! The Beddys ZipMattress Collection (also called ZipClean) is their newer mattress line and we have one in our son Harry's room. The genius feature: the top layer completely unzips and is machine-washable, so accidents and spills aren't permanent. With my code MINTARROW you get 25% off the mattress AND a free pillow at checkout (2 free pillows on Queen/King).

How do Beddys compare to Pottery Barn Kids?

I have personally tested both. Beddys wins on functionality (the zipper is unmatched for actual kid use), holds up just as long as PBK at a lower price point, and has cuter prints in my opinion. PBK is still beautiful, just not as practical for the way kids actually use bedding.
