Have you ever walked into your closet and had a conversation like this, “I need something to wear” and your closet says, “nope, nothing to see here!” HA. I know every girl out there has had this moment!!
So I set out recently to find some new fab fall dresses, and I found TWO amazing “cold weather” dresses at Nordstrom that are both big time wins in my book! When looking for the perfect dress for October-December, I really wanted to find something that wasn't your typical orange or rust colored dress that leaves you wondering on December 1st, “Okay, now how do I wear this?!”
Both of the dresses I found are beautiful neutrals that will transition past the fall months and are perfect for different occasions. Keep reading to see the two different looks and let me know which option you have your eye on for the cooler, holiday months ahead!
Dress 1: Satin Midi Wrap Dress… of my dreams!
This dreamy long sleeve midi wrap dress came recommended from one of our team members when we were looking for some options for family photos and can I just say… WOW. This dress is seriously STUNNING!
From the beautiful balloon sleeves, to the ruffles and flattering length on this dress, I'm so in love! The color is less gold than it looks in the photos, I would consider it more of a softer taupe shade, which makes it SO easy to coordinate with the other members in your family if you are considering this as an option for family photos! This “cold weather” dress would be beautiful for a special date night out this time of year, or a holiday dinner!
The neckline does hit a tiny bit low for my personal preference but it's such an easy fix with a safety pin or better yet, Nordstrom has their own in-house alteration department. How amazing is that?!
Did you know you can take your dress into Nordstrom and they can easily add a hook and eye closure or a button to your comfort level? This service is just one of the many reasons why I seriously love Nordstrom!
Dress 2: Sweater Dress..with the sweetest details!
If you're looking for something slightly more casual but equally beautiful, this long sleeve sweater dress is SO good. When I first put it on I immediately thought of the scene from Shrek (…tell me you're a mom without telling me you're a mom!). Maybe you know the scene, where the Gingerbread Man says, “not the gumdrop buttons!” Yep, this dress totally made me think of Shrek but in the best possible way. The beautiful, shiny gold buttons are the most perfect detail on this dress.
The fit of this dress is amazing! It's not too form fitting for a sweater dress and also not too generous either, like some other cold weather dresses. Sometimes with sweater dresses I find them to be either too form fitting where I'm wondering, “Am I even going to be comfortable in this?,” and other times they run so large that it feels like I'm wearing a paper bag. Not the case with this dress!
This sweater dress is really well cut. It's fitted to the natural waist line and then flares out making it EXTREMELY flattering. Isn't that what we're all looking for in a dress?! I love the tie, and the length of the sleeve. I'm seriously contemplating purchasing it in both colors because I know I'll get so much wear out of both!
Wear these shoes: when the dress is the main event!
I knew I had to immediately add these shoes to my cart because they were perfect for both cold weather dresses I brought home! The honey beige color is the perfect neutral and totally reminded me of this very similar designer pair for WAY less. This shoe is so subtle and almost disappears into the look so that the dress can stay the main event!
That's one of my favorite tricks to get the height and flattering posture from your shoes without them stealing the show. Look for a pretty almost transparent shoe like these that just melt into the look.
In the past, the only shoes I've been able to accomplish that same effect with is a strappy sandal like this option, or the cult class Nudistsong Ankle Strap Sandal from Stuart Weitzman. Both options are seriously beautiful and work with so many outfits, but not they're just not best come the cooler fall/winter weather!
I love that this pair of pumps from Schutz creates a very similar effect but is the fall/winter friendly version! While they won't keep your feet ultra warm, your foot will at the very least be covered when you're heading from the car to inside.
Top it off with wallet on a chain bag!
A wallet on a chain bag, like my all time favorite from YSL, is the perfect way to finish off both looks! They're perfectly polished but subtle enough to not take away from the look (kinda like these shoes!).
Which dress would you choose?!
I'm curious to know which of these cold weather dresses you're leaning toward?! The best thing about both of these dresses from Nordstrom is, they'll transition beautifully from fall to winter and they're outside of the “fall box!”
