A sale on a seahorse clutch and some deep thoughts about Rwanda

Outfit4-2-1

This morning I'm headed out to film some of my favorite spots in Orange County for our long overdue Orange County guide, but in the meantime I wanted to give you guys a peek at this outfit that I've been LOVING lately! Especially since this beautiful little hand-beaded seahorse clutch from my favorite Kate Spade on purpose line just went on sale!

Last Fall I traveled with Kate Spade down to Rwanda and met the women who hand make these bags and interviewed them and learned about their incredible stories. I wish I could relay with the same type of power and conviction the gratitude these artisans had for their job with Kate Spade's on purpose collection. Many of these women were only eating one meal a day, struggling to feed their families, and now they not only are eating well three meals a day but they're buying land and chickens and building homes and sending their children to college.

A year and a half ago, before on purpose started in the town of Masoro, they only had enough business to have their farmer's market open one day a week. Now it's open seven days a week. Women who work at ADC (the factory where on purpose goods are hand-made) are hiring other women in town to watch their children or clean their homes while they work in the factory. The ripple effect this community has seen is phenomenal.

The artisans own the factory and the spirit of hard work and happiness and joy is absolutely overwhelming. Their hearts just burst with happiness and there's absolutely nothing like being around Rwandans. They have been through so much, after the genocide of 1994 where a million people were killed in 100 days.  Most of the adults in their country do not have complete families, because so many died at that time, but yet the people we met were so joyful. They were so thankful and so hard-working and their happiness just permeated the air and enveloped me in a way that changed me forever.

I shared pictures and more of my experience here if you want to dive a little deeper into that experience with me, or learn more here from Kate Spade.

If you want to read a book that will just rock your world, one that will completely change who you are and how you look at the world, you must read Left to Tell. It's good from the very first page, and I cannot recommend it highly enough. Truly it's one of my top 3 favorite books of all time.

I just found out that I have the opportunity to listen to the author, Imacculee Ilibagiza, speak this Fall at doTERRA's convention and when I read the announcement I cried tears of happiness. Just read her book. You'll know why after.

You are exactly right about it changing your life and rocking your world….I can’t put it down. It is very hard for me to conceive the awfulness and horror. I’m just numb.

Thank you for being part of something great for a country and people who has been through so much!
