my shopping problem

Hello, my name is Corrine. And I have a shopping problem.

I know what you're thinking … you think I'm going to say I shop too much. Or I buy too much. But my shopping problem is kind of like when you have too many fresh tomatoes in your garden, or too many colleges that want to give you a scholarship. It's a good problem, but a problem nonetheless. I cannot bring myself to spend full-retail price. Like, ever. I think it all started with my mom.

Yes, I'm going to blame my mom for my problem. Join the club right?! See, my mom taught me growing up that it wasn't worth getting unless it was a GREAT deal. We shopped at TJ Maxx, Costco, and the clearance/sale racks of any other store we entered. It was a very, very rare occasion that we bought anything full-price. And that “problem” has followed me into adulthood. It's a great problem. And I'm here to share my problem with all of you.

I started this blog kind of on accident. It just happened naturally. I started using Instagram and hash-tagging #someonegobuythis on items I had just purchased for such a steal that I wanted all my friends to get it too. Sometimes I post things I don't necessarily need but I know SOMEONE out there does! Hence the “someone” in #someonegobuythis.

In fact, my very first #someonegobuythis post was on this darling, to die for green Jenny Lind bed! I almost bought it but I knew my husband would be like ??? and I really didn't need it! But dangit I wanted SOMEONE to get that deal!

Well, the addiction habit kind of took on a life of its own after that. For quite a while it was just a hobby and then at least one person would tell me, “you need to start a blog” or “you need to start a business,” each time I posted a #someonegobuythis Instagram.

My money-saving resume:

Marriage Mint:

I married my better half, the man who has the patience and kindness to put up with me daily, in August of 2011. It was my second wedding so we had a pretty teeny-tiny budget to pull off the big day. I utilized pinterest, found most of my decor at thrift shops, and shopped like crazy for deals. I bought my wedding dress at a second-hand vintage store and spent less than $300 total for my perfect dress. My friends and family – even the ones who knew my deal habit – were amazed by how beautiful our wedding turned out on a very tight budget.

Mini Mint:

When I found out I was pregnant with my first baby, in the Spring of 2012, I immediately started hunting down deals on all the nicest baby gear I wanted. I researched the heck out of each category and saved (literally) over $3,000 total on retail vs. my price for all the baby items I purchased. I even scored my dream crib for HALF of retail. Brand new, not used. Stay tuned for a post on that in the near future. That one was a wild goose chase, but it was worth it!

Mister Mint and Missy Mint:
Shopping apparel sales is nothing unique, I know. A lot of people cruise the sale racks at their favorite stores, but it's hard to keep track of all the great sales from all the best places. Raise your hand if you've unsubscribed from a daily deal site email (or two, or three, or ten) because they were cluttering your inbox and you didn't have time to sort through all of them! I'll help you do that. Because that's what friends are for, right?

I'm here to tell you that you don't have to compromise what you want just to save money! You can almost ALWAYS find a deal on even the nicest stuff. You might have to wait, and you might have to get creative. But you'll find that the more you do it, the easier it gets.

Lastly, I hope that Mint Arrow is a community of people helping each other out. If you find a great deal, please do share! Post a picture on Instagram, Tweet about it, Facebook it, put it on the fabulous new finds app, whatever is your cup of tea. Use the hashtag #mintarrow and you may just find your deal featured on the blog.

Thank you for all your support, encouragement, and excitement!

 1. I remember when you posted that green bed :)
best wishes in this fun new adventure!
love you,
Mom

 2. LOVED reading this and learning this fun "quark" about you! Apparently we have the same addiction/problem/weakness/amazing gift 😉 So fun to know I'm not alone in my weirdness and that just because someone can afford to pay full price for something certainly does not mean that they should! It's way funner to get it for half…just sayin' Can't wait to read more….<
