As I type up this post I have a gigantic grin on my face while *NSYNC’s version of The First Noel plays softly in the background. I LOVE CHRISTMAS!!! And I couldn’t contain my excitement this year to put all our decorations up!
For the past 2 years we’ve had the same Christmas tree, and I’m still putting it up in our formal living room, but the Christmas tree we’ve had in our family room has been the same for the past 7 years, so I decided this year was a good time to change things up! I wanted to go for a vintagey-girly look without looking too girly (we do have a dude living with us!) so I played with a lot of mints and golds and some subtle touches of pink and I think it turned out so cute!!
A funny (or not so funny!) note about this beautiful flocked tree: it is definitely the most real looking fake tree I’ve ever seen, but it is not pre-lit! You can actually buy the pre-lit version here, but it’s not flocked. That was a huge “whoops” surprise for me when we opened and assembled it. But it ended up turning out better anyway, because we got to use some kind of fun and really different lights! It was actually really quick and easy to light this tree, because we didn’t do the traditional branch-wrapping method. We stuck these branch lights in randomly all over, and then we kind of just draped these tiny twinkly lights all over. I love how it turned out! Definitely a little out of the box but really fun.
I think my favorite ornaments in the tree are the birds. They add something so fun and different! My girls love to find the birds hiding in the tree, I’ve just had to teach them to point instead of grab haha.
When I put ornaments on a tree, I really try to mix big and small so that there’s a nice visual variety. I also really love to wrap most of the ornaments so that there aren’t tons of strings hanging everywhere above each ornament! A few are okay, but I like wrapping most of them for a cleaner look.
You might notice that I don’t have a tree topper … that’s because I ordered one that’s sold out now, but it was too heavy! So I’m on the lookout for a pretty, lightweight tree topper. If you know of one that would fit my tree will you tell me in the comments? 🙂
I almost love the mantle even more than the tree! We wrapped this decorative trim around the garland, and then these tiny twinkly lights, and finally finished it off by wrapping these tiny ornaments around the leaves of the garland. We turn the lights on every night and it seriously makes me so happy! I just want our house to be decorated in Christmas all year long. Don’t worry, we’ll take it down because Neil has more sense than I do when it comes to this stuff!
We rounded up everything you need to recreate this exact look in your home! You can totally use just a few, or all of the ornaments, the faux flocked tree we used, or the pre-lit version or a fresh tree, or even just the little mantle display if you’re in a small space! If you order everything today, it will be at your house in time to set up the day after Thanksgiving. While I’m finding you Black Friday deals that you shop for in your pajamas, of course 😉
