how to SAVE BIG with amazon subscribe and save

i’ve been looking forward to this post for months, and have kind of been holding out on you guys (sorry!) but i knew that this spot on studio 5 (a local daytime news show) was going to air today, so i wanted to save this info for one big bang post. they asked me a few months back to come on their show and talk all about amazon subscribe and save

**update** here is the video of me on studio 5 talking about subscribe and save!

here’s the basic 411: amazon subscribe and save is an amazing way to get household items that you normally buy at warehouse or big-box stores like costco, sam’s club, walmart or target, for WAY cheaper and (the best part!) shipped to your door for FREE.

there are no membership fees (or any fees for that matter), no commitments, you can cancel anytime. it’s fantastic.

you’ll save a minimum of 5% anytime off anything in the amazon subscribe & save store, but if you have at least 5 items in a month to your order, you’ll get an extra 15% off (20% total!) off amazon’s already-low prices. and in most states, you won’t pay tax, either.

ALSO, if you have never done a subscribe and save order, right now through december 19 you can get an extra 30% off your first order with code NEWSNS30.

here’s a sample order of 5 items, comparing how much you’d pay at target versus how much you’ll save through amazon subscribe and save:

amazon s&s

1. Tide Pods Laundry Detergent Spring Meadow Scent 77 Count: $18.99 at target right now, but $15.38 on amazon subscribe and save after the 20% discount.

2. Viva Paper Towels, White, Big Roll, 6 rolls (Pack of 4): regularly priced $12.49 for 8 at target ($1.56 per roll), but you can get 24 rolls for $23.94 on amazon subscribe and save (about $1 per roll).

3. Happy Tot Organic Baby Food, Stage 4, Spinach, Mango and Pear, 4.0-Ounce Pouches (Pack of 16): these are $1.43 a piece at target, so you’ll pay $22.88 for 16, versus $16.51 for 16 on your subscribe and save order.

4. Bounce Fresh Linen Fabric Softener Sheets 160 Count: 160 of these at target are $6.84, or you can pay $5.47 on amazon subscribe and save.

5. Maybelline New York The Falsies Volum’ Express Washable Mascara, Blackest Black, 0.25 Fluid Ounce: $5.99 at target, or $3.98 at amazon subscribe and save.

so if this was your order for one given month, you’d spend $65.28 on amazon subscribe and save for all the items listed above. if you went to target and mindlessly added all these things to your cart without looking at the prices (you know you’ve done this!) you’d pay $92.14! i mean really, that’s a no brainer. also, the amazon subscribe and save order will ship to your door for free.

sometimes you can save HUGE too if amazon drops a price on a s&s eligible item. like right now Pampers Sensitive Wipes 7x Box 448 Count is $10.97 (amazon’s lowest price ever), and with the subscribe and save discount you’ll get 448 wipes for $8.78.

the subscription part: when you subscribe to an item, it will prompt you to sign up for a frequency that’s most common from other s&s shoppers. these suggestions are pretty spot-on. however, you can change, cancel, modify these at any time. you’ll get a nice little email reminding you each month before your order goes out, in case you need to add or delete anything, or skip that month entirely.

will this service always be the very best deal out there? no. sometimes costco’s prices are better, especially if there’s a costco coupon you can stack on top of their warehouse price at the moment. but are they often (and most likely) better than costco? yes. more often than not, yes. you can also sometimes beat subscribe and save prices by price-matching at walmart. if you want more info on how to do that, read my post here.

if you’re super excited and ready to jump on board, you’ll want to bookmark this page so that anytime you need to search for a subscribe and save eligible item, you can quickly and easily.

First, I love your blog! Second, I know this is an older post but I was thinking about trying amazon’s subscription program and I was not sure if you can get different products shipped each month( or whichever frequency) or if you get the same 5 products every time? Thank you!
